Internship in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia

As International Relations student is an honor to be part of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Somehow, I wonder how the diplomats work, how they handle the issues, how they bring nation interest as a state. I read many books and articles about it, but still curious the real situation.

Luckily, I prepared it since my 6th semester of uni. Tasya and I planned internship after our community service. Then, long story short, there were obstacles in my campus, then with the gambling output we were hurry to send the files to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

You need to fulfill these documents:
1. Curriculum Vitae
2. Application letter (you should write it to the secretary of directorate you want)
3. GPA transcript
4. Letter from your uni (yes, you have to be an active university student)
5. Motivation Letter

Send those documents to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Jalan Pejambon No. 6 Jakarta Pusat, 10110. Make sure write down the directorate you want to apply on the envelope. Some applicants couldn't make it because they forget to write the directorate.

But, it's better for you to call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you send the documents to know the availability of internship. Somehow, in the holiday seasons some directorates close the application because of full quota.

Back to my story. Since the very beginning Tasya and I declined the first stage. We didn't ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs first before we sent documents. We put middle of January as the beginning of our internship (it was the holiday seasons for sure). But luckily we were accepted, maybe because not many interns chose our directorate, hahaha..

By the way my internship is in American and European Directorate, in Europe II unit. This unit works for bilateral cooperation among Indonesia and European countries.

What I am doing now are file-ing, editing, and many more. Because of that I know there are diplomatic note, office memo, MoU, etc. For your information, every cooperation among Indonesia and other countries, IGO, INGO is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Yeah, it is little bit complicated that you need to know all aspect from politic issues until animal issues. So, being diplomat is not easy as it looks.

Beside that I can ask many things from the diplomats. Can you imagine that you learn from the one who works with it, not only in the books? Such a great experience for sure :)
